UI/Blueprint Implementer (Remote Option)

Harmonix is looking for a technically savvy, talented, and motivated UI Implementer to join us in creating innovative music game experiences in Unreal Engine. We are looking for someone who can turn UI Art/UX Design vision into reality by integrating and implementing UI content into our games.

You will be responsible for ensuring that our UI behaves as you, the designers, and the artists intended. You will collaborate with designers, artists, and engineers and will be involved at every step of the process, and will work with teams to ensure they have the tools they need to make our games as awesome (and as frictionless to develop) as possible.

This is a great opportunity for folks (including those looking to get a foot in the door in games) who are knowledgeable about Blueprint, enjoy creative problem solving, and are passionate about music games! Note: this position can be fully remote and does not require relocation to Boston (although we are open to relocation and local candidates). Our studio has operated effectively with remote employees in the past, both prior to and during the pandemic. Note that we are a fully remote studio through at least the end of 2021.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Implementing UI art and design elements via Blueprint in Unreal Engine
  • Work with artists and designers to adjust the look or function of UI elements as needed
  • Work with engineers to build and adjust for functionality, optimization, and performance
  • Collaborate on a multi-disciplinary team
  • Drive toolset and process improvements for developers
  • Research, learn and share new technology and production techniques with the UI art team

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong familiarity and experience with Blueprint Visual Scripting
  • Ability to write Blueprint code and work in Designer to create appropriately flexible and understandable widgets
  • Minimum of 1 game shipped or game project completed
  • Cares about standards and organization in order to maintain a generally usable content tree in Unreal with searchable widgets
  • Able to work with engineers to get tools, engine modifications, and other foundational needs met, and for feature development needs like getting data and events
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and superior people skills to work in a creative and positive manner with the team
  • Knowledgeable about contemporary games and game trends

 

Bonus Qualities:

  • Familiarity with and passion for music games
  • Experience programming or scripting game prototypes.
  • Passionate relationship to music; musicians preferred
  • Understands partition behavior through the hierarchy of widgets
  • Video Game industry experience preferred
  • UX Design experience (creating wireframes, interactive prototypes, user flows, etc.)
  • Experience with agile development methodologies, e.g. scrum.
